Surabaya, September 2024 – Temasek Foundation has announced the launch of the “SCALE”, Specialists’ Community Action and Leadership Exchange, a student exchange initiative aimed at fostering cross-cultural understanding, leadership, and technical education among youth in the ASEAN region.
The programme, PENS in partnership with ITE College West, seeks to encourage appreciation of diverse socio-political, cultural, and technological issues through structured academic learning and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) project development.
Upon arrival, participants were warmly welcomed at Jewel Changi Airport. They were then introduced to the SCALE Programme and given a campus tour of ITE College West. Following this, they visited the Singapore City Gallery and National Monument of Singapore, offering insights into the city’s development and heritage. The participants also visited Chint Global and Sembcorp, gaining valuable industry insights.
They learned about solar panels, the built environment, and MRT systems at ITE College West, followed by a visit to Marina Barrage. They then engaged in structured learning on the initialization and maintenance of residential electricity systems. Subsequently, they toured Taisin Electric and the Singapore Mobility Gallery to understand modern technological advancements.
The program also included a nature walk at the Rail Corridor, highlighting sustainability efforts. Lastly, they participated in a sustainability workshop, creating “no sew tote bags” and bracelets, and engaging in project discussions, rounding off their enriching experience.
The exchange program unfolds have two phases and this will follow by the second phase in Indonesia, at PENS, from December 1 to 14, 2024. In conclusion, the PENS-ITE Student Exchange Program, generously supported by the Temasek Foundation, does more than impart technical knowledge rounded individuals, preparing them to tackle the challenges of the future.
The student carry back not only academic knowledge but also valuable life experiences that will shape their characters and worldviews, enriching their futures in countless ways. This initiative highlights the power of international collaboration and cross-cultural education in preparing the leaders of tomorrow.
